We handle land clearing in Hanahan for back lots and lot lines that brush and vines have taken over. Hanahan sits at the very south end of Berkeley County, and it counted 20,325 people at the 2020 Census. Our land clearing work runs on a Kubota SVL compact track loader with a forestry mulching head. The head grinds brush and saplings into mulch on the spot, and every tree you mark to keep stays.
Hanahan was incorporated as a city in 1973, and it is mostly residential today. North Charleston borders the city on the west and south, and Goose Creek lies to the east and north. When a back lot sits for a few seasons, vines climb the fence and saplings fill the corner. Brush clearing grinds that growth into mulch and opens the lot line back up so you can use it.

Tanner Plantation is a mostly residential part of Hanahan, with some commercial development in the mix. Homes along Foster Creek Road in Tanner Plantation sit in our range, and so does the Tanner Hall subdivision. Elsewhere in the city, Otranto Plantation was listed on the National Register of Historic Places back in 1978. We clear overgrown lots in each of these areas with forestry mulching, and the mulch stays on the ground.
If your lot backs up to woods, vines and saplings can creep in until the back fence line disappears. You mark the trees you want to keep, and the mulcher works close around each trunk. The brush and saplings between those trunks go through the head and land on the ground as mulch. You get a back line you can see and reach again, and the shade trees stay where they are.
A main rail line runs north and south along Hanahan's west city limit, where the city meets North Charleston. To the east lies the old Naval Weapons Station, which was once a submarine base and is still federal property. Inside those lines, Hanahan residents live on both sides of the Goose Creek Reservoir. On a wooded corner near any of these edges, we mulch the thicket and leave the trees you keep.
Bowen, once known as Foster Creek Village, sits between Tanner Ford Boulevard and the Goose Creek Reservoir. Where hardwoods shade a lot near the water, hardwood understory clearing mulches the brush and small stems under the canopy. The same work happens every year on our family's own 327-acre tract in the ACE Basin near Yemassee. Your lot keeps its shade, and you can see through the woods to the back line again.
The City of Hanahan requires a permit to remove any tree 8 inches or more in diameter at breast height. That measure is often written as DBH, and the City's rule applies to trees of every species. On the City's list, pines, sweet gums, wax myrtles, crepe myrtles, Bradford pears and water oaks are exempt from protection. Even so, the City still requires a permit application for those species, and tree removal applications are free.
We mulch brush and saplings in place on your lot and work around every tree you mark to keep. Any tree of 8 inches or more is a City matter first: the property owner files that application, and we clear the brush around it either way. Mark the keepers for us before the mulcher arrives. This is general information, not legal advice, so check your parcel with City Hall on Yeamans Hall Road.
